* Mini represents 5 and 6 year olds who will play together. WHSC does not accept children under age five as of August 1, 2010.

** Price includes (Mini's only) Soccer shirt, shorts, socks and ball.
West Highline Soccer Club has final say regarding placement of players on requested teams and age group requested to play in.

What does the registration fee cover?
Our registration fees pay for field rental and equipment, including goal nets, balls and cones, player insurance, referees, administration costs and our registration fees to Washington State Youth Soccer. Your registration fee does not cover the cost of uniforms*, tournament registration fees, field fees arranged at privately-owned fields or clinics.

Please note, WHSC does not require any additional fund raising activities, i.e. candy sales, raffles, etc. for your child to participate in the regular season. Some teams may decide to participate in tournaments incurring additional costs that are sometimes offset by fundraising activities.

*West Highline does provide uniforms (jersey, shorts, socks & soccer ball) for U-7 Mini team players only.

What other costs might be incurred?
As stated above, your registration fee covers the basics only. WHSC fees do not cover uniforms (except where otherwise noted), photographs, tournament registration fees, practice field rental for privately-owned facilities, snacks and/or trophies/awards. We encourage you to discuss any additional costs with your child’s coach or team manager.

When do Fall Season Games start?
The fall season starts in September for all age groups. Competitive (Gold or Silver) district teams will generally start the first weekend after Labor Day weekend. All district recreational and association teams will generally start two weeks after Labor Day. U7 Minis first game is the first weekend after Labor Day Weekend.

Am I too late to sign up?
In order to guarantee a returning player a spot on their existing team, we require that they register and pay prior to August 1st. No guarantees can be made after this date and it is further dependent upon available volunteer coaches/teams.

We accept player registrations up to the start of the season, providing there is space available on a team at the appropriate age level. After August 1st, registrations (except U7) may be placed on a wait list and players added to teams based upon availability.

I would like my son/daughter to play on a friend’s team or for a specific coach.
We try to honor such requests and urge you to register by August 1st, although we cannot guarantee requested placements.

If your child is a returning player, every effort will be made to place your child on the same team as last season, as long as the coach and team are returning and you’ve not requested that your child be assigned to a new team.  Please keep in mind that it’s Club policy to place additional players on teams with the shortest roster and without going over state-regulated roster size.

Do you accept beginning soccer players?
Absolutely!

Do you have a program for kids under the age of seven?
Yes, our Mini (U7) program is a great way to introduce the game of soccer to our youngest players. We aim to provide a fun and positive environment in which coaches can introduce basic soccer concepts and skills. Our Mini season is eight weeks long and all games are played at Gregory Heights Elementary school.  Children who are five as of August 1st are eligible to register for this great program.

What equipment does a player need?
All players must wear shin guards and socks (socks must be worn over shin guards.)  We also strongly encourage you to have your child wear molded soccer cleats that provide traction.

Please keep in mind that soccer is an active sport; please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately. Players should wear their hair away from their face, keeping in mind that metal or plastic hair accessories pose a safety threat and are therefore not allowed. Jewelry is also not allowed, including earrings.

Finally, your child should bring a water bottle to all practices and games.

Can earrings be worn if they are taped up?
No. Earrings can be dangerous to both the player wearing them and other players. Although, you will see professional soccer players wearing earrings and other jewelry, it is not allowed for any reason in youth soccer. Referees will not allow earrings to be worn. If the earrings are unable to be removed, the referee may not allow the player to play during the game. The referee is responsible for the safety of all the players. Plan on piercing ears after soccer season is over.

I signed my child up for soccer, but I haven’t heard back from my coach. What should I do?
As you can appreciate, it takes a tremendous amount of time and effort to process hundreds of registrations. You should expect to hear back from your coach or from the club by mid-August (except U7 Minis). Ideally, your child’s coach will contact you shortly after receiving the roster to advise you of practice schedule. In the event that we are unable to place your child on a team, WHSC will contact you and endeavor to find a place for your child with one of Highline Soccer Association’s other local clubs. If we are unable to place your child on a team, a full refund to you for any registration fees paid will be made.

If you haven’t heard back by the first week in September, please contact us.  See 'Admin' link for 'Age Group Director'.

When and where are practices held?
The team coach determines the number of practices per week, the location, time and duration. It is up to the coach or team manager to contact all players with the details.

My child is a new player and we only have a birth certificate the hospital gave us. Why is this not acceptable?
Washington State Youth Soccer (WSYSA) is our governing body and they require that we have a government-issued proof of age on file for every child who is a member of our club.

Another acceptable form of proof of age is your child’s passport.

If your child previously played for WHSC, we should have a copy of the birth certificate already on file. All players new to WHSC should submit a copy of their birth certificate or other government-issued proof of age to their coach on the first day of practice.

I want my son/daughter to play in a higher age bracket. Is this possible?
The decision to have your child “play-up” is something that requires careful consideration. Such a request is generally made when a player demonstrates a skill level above his/her age of play and when there is a team available. Such a request should be made to the appropriate age group director and requires coach approval.

Two things to note: you need to register your child in their correct age-group, using the comment field to request that they “play-up.” If your child is indeed rostered to an older team, there will be an additional registration fee (the difference between their age-group registration fee and the older age-group registration fee) incurred. The Club has final approval of any player requesting to “play-up.”
